Sustainability is part of the approach at Inex
At Inex, we make delicious, Belgian dairy products in a responsible way. This focus on the future starts from our 3 pillars: man, planet and product. We strive for optimal balance.
Man
Commitment to people
Everything we do on our dairy site is done by and for people. We feel responsible for the well-being of our employees and our fellow human beings.
Safety and well-being at work
Our employees have a key role within the company. They are our driving force and determine the success of Inex. That is why we make every effort to stimulate the development of each colleague. This includes a pleasant, safe and healthy working environment where we put maximum effort into the safety and well-being of our people.
Local dairy farmers as suppliers
Inex’s milk comes from 455 dairy farms within a radius of 100 kilometres around Bavegem. Most of them have been supplying us for generations.
Healthy lifestyle
We encourage our employees to exercise more: at home, at work and on the way to work. That is why we offer, among other things, (electric) bicycle lease.
For many people, dairy is an important part of their daily diet. Inex is the largest school milk supplier in Belgium, which also makes us a social example.
By paying extra attention to a lower sugar content and more proteins in our product compositions, we also take care of general health and help to combat obesity.
Social role
Our staff is strongly committed to charities, such as ‘Kom op Tegen Kanker’ (Stand Up To Cancer). This is engaging and ensures a high level of commitment.
Planet
Respect for nature
Inex doesn’t just want to work with the best nature has to offer. We want to be able to continue to extract these raw materials from nature in a sustainable way.
Milk from cows from the meadows
Meadow milk is milk from local farms, where the cows are out in the meadows for at least 6 hours a day. And for at least 120 days a year, from spring to autumn.
“Well isn’t that normal”, I hear you say? Not at all! Within the modern dairy farm, cows are not necessarily allowed to graze in the meadow from spring to autumn. Our dairy farmers, however, are still true craftsmen, who work with respect for tradition and their animals.
At Inex, we believe that cows and pasture belong together:
- Meadows are home to many wild birds, herbs and insects.
- In the meadow, cows have room for their natural grazing behaviour.
- On 26% of our Belgian agricultural land you can only grow grass. On grazing land, cows convert grass into quality milk. This is how we turn indigestible grass into a high-quality foodstuff.
Reduction of CO₂ footprint
Inex is working to reduce energy consumption throughout the dairy chain. We do this, for example, by heat recovery, more efficient cleaning of machines and energy-efficient modifications to our cooling systems.
Inex also resolutely opts for renewable energy. Since 2011, our building has been home to 5,500 m² of solar panels. And when purchasing new machines, we always take energy consumption into account.
Sustainable transport
We transport the raw milk from the local farmer to the dairy ourselves. In recent years, we have bought modern and economical, large capacity trailers (27,000 litres). This allows us to travel fewer kilometres to collect the same amount of milk. And minimise our impact on the environment.
By making maximum use of return freight, we also limit the distribution of the end products to our customers (e.g. for the Netherlands plant transport as return freight). A smart move, both ecologically and economically.
Love of the product
Carefully selected ingredients and packaging
Inex offers a sustainable and high-quality product range that revolves around health and nutrition.
Healthier range
Our products are authentic and tasty. Moreover, we continuously monitor food safety and focus more and more on healthy food choices. Many of our dairy products contain no added sugars or are low in sugars. Look at the Nutriscore on our packaging.
Environmentally friendly packaging
Inex has modern and durable packaging that you can use with peace of mind.
Inex cardboard packaging, for example, consists of FSC* approved cardboard. This means that the Forest Stewardship Council not only checked the forest of origin, but also the entire supply chain right up to the final consumer. It therefore offers the absolute guarantee that this paper comes from effectively managed forests.
In 2020, we switched to biobased Tetra packaging for Bambix, which consists of more than 80% plant based materials. This will contribute to reducing resource scarcity and climate change.
Last but not least: Inex is a founding member of Fost Plus, which promotes and coordinates the collection, sorting and recycling of household packaging waste in Belgium.
Who are we and what do we do?
Inex is a dynamic dairy company where employees work every day with huge passion for what they do. Our mission: to add value to the best that nature has to offer.
